Living Abroad for 22 Years: Discovering the Power of Human Connections and Lessons Learned

As Bernard Shaw wisely said, "Life is not about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself." My unfolding tale has taken me on an extraordinary journey, living and working in Finland, China, Germany, and Canada. Immersed in diverse cultures, I have encountered remarkable individuals, leaving an indelible mark on the pages of my life. Beyond job titles or positions, these connections have shaped the essence of these moments. These thoughts reflect the profound significance of these relationships and the invaluable lessons learned during my 28 years as an educator.

This sentiment resonates deeply with my experience living abroad, where I have continuously confronted the choice between staying within my comfort zone and embracing the unknown. There comes a point when the fear of remaining stagnant becomes more unbearable than the risks associated with growth. As I embark on my new role as the Head of Lower School at an International School in the USA, I am filled with anticipation.
